School of Rock 2 The Encore 2026 Starring Jack Black Mike White Joan Cusack Miranda Cosgrove

Class is officially back in session but the curriculum has drastically changed in School of Rock 2 The Encore. This high voltage sequel finds the legendary Dewey Finn played by the incomparable Jack Black running a struggling community music center that serves as the last bastion of true rock and roll. However he is clinging to his analog dreams in a rapidly evolving digital world where the spirit of music is fading replaced by soulless AI generated pop hits and fleeting fifteen second viral dances. The stakes are raised when a massive corporate music conglomerate threatens to bulldoze his beloved center to build a cold server farm leaving Dewey with only one desperate chance to save it winning the prestigious global Battle of the Streamers competition.

Jack Black returns with his signature explosive energy and comedic brilliance but this time he realizes he cannot do it alone. He reaches out to the original band members his former students who are now stressed adults trapped in boring corporate jobs and in desperate need of a creative release. Summer Hathaway played by Miranda Cosgrove steps back into the spotlight as a ruthless music executive who reluctantly agrees to manage Deweys chaotic new class of Gen Alpha kids. These digital natives present a unique challenge as they think playing air guitar means using a VR headset and have never held a real instrument in their lives.

Old school philosophy violently clashes with new technology as Dewey tries to teach a generation raised on auto tune how to truly feel the noise and embrace the imperfections of live performance. Joan Cusack returns as the now retired but still delightfully uptight Ms Mullins who reveals a shocking secret love for heavy metal adding to the comedic dynamic. The band must unite across generations to prove that while algorithms can write technically perfect songs only humans can rock with soul. It is a heartwarming high decibel rebellion against the machine that reminds us all why we fell in love with music in the first place.
