There is famously no place like home but the magical land of Oz is desperately calling out for help across the dimensions. Decades after the legendary Dorothy Gale bid farewell to the magical land her rebellious and adventurous great granddaughter Thea played by Millie Bobby Brown uncovers a family secret. She discovers the iconic dusty Ruby Slippers hidden beneath the creaky floorboards of her familys ancestral Kansas farmhouse unlocking a destiny she never asked for but was born to fulfill.
When a sudden and unnatural storm sweeps across the plains it transports Thea back to Oz but it is not the paradise her grandmother described in her stories. She finds the famous Yellow Brick Road shattered into fragments and the glorious Emerald City is now under the dark and oppressive rule of the Wicked Witch of the Wests vengeful successor played with chilling elegance by Anya Taylor Joy. The magic that once fueled the land is rapidly fading and the vibrant technicolor landscape is slowly turning into a lifeless and depressing grey as the joy is sucked out of the world.
In order to survive and restore the light Thea teams up with an unlikely group of heroes who mirror the original trio but with a distinct modern twist. She joins forces with a charming but anxious descendant of the Scarecrow played by Tom Holland who surprisingly seeks courage to face his fears. They are joined by a rusted and battle worn Tin Soldier played by the imposing Dave Bautista who is a hulking war machine desperately seeking a heart so he can feel emotion again after years of conflict. Together Thea and her motley crew must navigate a treacherous new landscape filled with mutated flying monkeys and dark magic traps.
